NORTH SHORE ANIMAL LEAGUE AMERICA PARTNERS WITH THE JASON DEBUS HEIGL FOUNDATION & BALDWIN PARK ANIMAL CARE CENTER TO SAVE NEARLY 80 PETS LIVES
PORT WASHINGTON, NY, September 20, 2012 - North Shore Animal League America (NSALA), The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation and the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center are saving nearly 80 lives with a cooperative adoption event TODAY, September 20th, followed by the subsequent rescue transfer of 50 small, mixed-breed dogs of all ages from L.A. County to Animal League America's Adoption Headquarters in Port Washington, NY. Each event is a collaborative effort of Animal League America, The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation and the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center in Los Angeles.
"We are all very excited to come together with The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation, which will enable us to add to the 20,000 lives we already save annually and allow these animals to escape the risk of euthanasia and find loving ,permanent homes," said Animal League America's Senior Vice President of Operations Joanne Yohannan. "We hope that this is just the beginning of a long-term, life-saving partnership."
"Our collective goal is to reduce the euthanasia rate at three L.A County shelters by transporting animals to forever homes in New York communities where the demand for companion pets is high," said Foundation co-founder Nancy Heigl. "Partnering with North Shore Animal League America will allow us to combine resources to help achieve this target and also to promote joint adoption events which will ultimately save more lives," she added.
Today, September 20th, the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation and Animal League America will be holding a Mobile Pet Adoption event from 1 – 6 p.m. at Walmart, 3250 Big Dalton Ave, Baldwin Park, CA. One of Animal League America's Mobile Rescue Unit's will be on-site with nearly 30 adorable adoptable animals from the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center. These animals are looking for loving homes and to escape the risk of euthanasia. Any animal that is not adopted at this event will be flown to NSALA Adoption Headquarters, where it will have another chance to be adopted and find its permanent home.
NSALA in collaboration with The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation and Baldwin Park Animal Care Center, will then transport an additional 50 small, mixed-breed dogs of all ages from CA to NSALA Adoption Headquarters in NY, where they will be placed up for adoption into loving homes without the risk of euthanasia. Upon arrival in NY the dogs, all spayed and neutered, will be medically and behaviorally evaluated and will begin to go up for adoption shortly afterwards.
