It has been a busy start to 2014 for the Heigl Foundation's transport team! In January alone, over 200 cats and dogs were relocated from high kill shelters in the Los Angeles area - where they were at imminent risk of euthanisia, to new homes and new lives in locations across the United States.
Since the inception of the JDHF Transport Program over 5000 companion animals have been saved from almost certain death by moving them from overpopulated shelters, to communities where demand exceeds supply and there are people waiting to adopt them.
In 2013 alone, the program transported well over 1100 pets to safety. A huge thank you to all of our volunteers for their tremendous work in helping to save so many lives. Our gratitude also goes to the shelter management and staff who help make the transports such a success. Their prep work and assistance in getting the animals out of the door is invaluable. Both the Foundation and the pets they help to save are truly thankful.
