The welfare of companion animals in the shelter system is an important issue for the Heigl Foundation and we routinely fund projects aimed at improving facilities at centers that care for homeless pets. Two recent recipients of grants from the JDHF include the Heber Valley Animal Shelter in Utah and Tulare Animal Services in California. Find out how the funding can make a huge difference not only to the lives of shelter animals but to their chances of finding a forever home.

A few weeks ago the Tulare Animal Shelter held a groundbreaking ceremony with a difference for a new 7800 sq ft interactive play and exercise area for puppies and dogs. The facility, primarily funded by a grant from the JDHF and the Tulare Rotary Club, will allow staff, volunteers and potential dog owners to play and exercise the shelter residents.

Thanks in part to a $12,500 donation from the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation, Tulare Animal Services is to construct a play and exercise area for large dogs, small dogs and puppies at its shelter. The money will allow prospective owners to walk the animals, which will not only help to increase their chances of adoption, but will be beneficial to their general welfare.
