Kaira and Mia: Two Blind Pups, One Unbreakable Friendship

Some rescues are written in parallel, and some are destined to intertwine. For Kaira and Mia, two blind pups once facing impossible odds, their paths led not only to survival but to each other.

Kaira’s journey began in June 2024, when she was pulled from West Valley on the very day she was scheduled for euthanasia. Blind and in pain, she was immediately taken into the Jason Heigl Foundation’s care, where her first eye was removed to relieve pressure. After a smooth recovery, she spent time in boarding while we searched for her forever home.

Just a few months later, in September 2024, Mia’s story began. Also blind, she was rushed to the Veterinary Neurology Center after being pulled from the shelter. Diagnosed with hydrocephalus, she started a carefully tailored blend of prescribed medication and holistic therapies. Against the odds, her playful personality began to shine brighter than ever.

The turning point came when foster-to-adopt star Miranda Li opened her Sacramento home to both girls. Under her care, Kaira and Mia learned house training, attended therapy sessions, and enjoyed endless cuddle breaks. Earlier this year, Kaira underwent her second eye surgery, while Mia continues to thrive on her wellness plan.

Now, the two are inseparable — blind best friends who navigate the world together, proving that love and resilience can overcome even the hardest beginnings.

These success stories are powered by the Jason Heigl Foundation Medical Program and passionate fosters like Miranda, who turn rescue into family.
