DESCRIPTION

Meet David, a sweet, approximately 2-year-old, 20-pound mystery mix of Jack Russell and Terrier (though his exact lineage is anyone’s guess!). David found his way to the safe haven of the Jason Heigl Foundation in Oakley, Utah, alongside a small gang of fellow strays from the streets of Bakersfield, California. These once-unsocialized dogs arrived terrified, unsure of the world and unfamiliar with the idea that humans could be kind. But with patience, consistency, and gentle care, David is beginning to discover that people can be trusted and life can be good. Now neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, and crate trained, this deserving little guy is ready to find a special person willing to help him continue his journey toward a forever home—or a foster-to-forever family willing to let love lead the way.

David has a lot to offer his future family! He gets along wonderfully with other small dogs in our kennels, delights in romping around the play yard, enjoys leashed walks, and is always happy to accept a tasty treat. His crate is his cozy little sanctuary, a place where he feels safe and secure. Since David hasn’t yet experienced life in a home, he’ll need patience and consistency as he learns the ropes of indoor living, including reliable potty habits. Like many formerly feral dogs, he won’t become an instant cuddle bug overnight, but we believe there’s a loving, devoted companion waiting to blossom beneath that cautious exterior. Until David feels secure with his new people and surroundings, he may be a flight risk if left unattended or allowed off leash, so a safe, secure environment and careful management will be essential.

David’s happily-ever-after won’t happen overnight, but for the right person, watching him discover the joys of a loving home will be an incredibly rewarding experience. He needs kind-hearted humans who understand that trust is earned, progress takes time, and the smallest victories deserve to be celebrated. With structure, patience, a gentle approach, and perhaps a canine friend to show him the ropes, we know this sweet boy is destined for greatness. Could you be the person who helps David trade his uncertain past for a future filled with safety, confidence, and love? His forever family is out there, and we can’t wait for him to find them. David is available to adopt in Utah.
